“This project presented the challenge of relocating and upgrading the HVAC system at a National Trust Landmark property, the Owens Thomas House. The basement is where ductwork and an air handler were located, creating a sizable visual impediment to this critical interpretive space.  The engineers' new HVAC system's design challenge was that it needed to be completely hidden, and it could not create any new openings in the historic fabric of the building. The team decided to utilize the 12 chimney flues as air delivery ducts into each room on the upper levels, providing return air through the basement fireplaces. New units were placed in the attic space with ducts feeding into the flues directly.

The result? Six new nail holes in the attic structure are the only irreversible portion of the entire installation, an accomplishment rarely achieved in HVAC installations. The new system delivers climatized air throughout the home, and no equipment or ducting is visible. This was a very challenging project requiring experimentation, the input from many professionals, and tremendous patience. CEA stayed with the project for the three years it took to refine the details and make sure we were comfortable with the design. I would very happily work with CEA again.” Sonja Wallen, Buildings Curator

“Please allow this letter to recognize our personal experiences with, and professional endorsement of, Constantine Engineering.

PBC is a residential home builder with 20+ years’ experience in mixed use, commercial, multifamily and adaptive re-use / infill opportunities in and around Wilmington NC.

Our firm had the good fortune of being introduced to the team at Constantine in 2017 by LS3P Architects during the design of our Multifamily Apartment Building (the Pearl.)

Since that time Constantine has completed four additional projects for us with several more in the pipeline.

We found EVERYONE at Constantine to become true collaborators in the successful design and engineering of our plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems.

Constantine has built a team of experts who listen to our ideas, recognize our concerns and understand our primary objectives.   More importantly, we didn’t feel as though our needs and requests were being dismissed.

We’re builders, not engineers, we don’t know what’s allowed (and what’s not) but we genuinely appreciated the willingness of the team at Constantine to help guide us toward acceptable solutions.

Constantine protected our financial as well as schedule constraints, but they also helped us create BETTER projects.  That role was not only valuable to our success but vital to our own internal management and delivery of our buildings.  We are grateful for their support.

In the complex world of design, engineering and construction it is with great pleasure that we count them again our most trusted partners.  I’m certain you’ll find the same.” Dave Spetrino, Founder

“Chris Constantine and the whole crew were a great source of engineering expertise for me and the team, while developing our flagship restaurant, Black Magic Café on James Island. We had no doubts in contacting Chris and his team once again when we expanded to our new location on Ashley River Road in West Ashley.  CEA was a huge help in navigating the permitting process.  It’s safe to say CEA is our go-to electrical and mechanical firm!” Eran Maron, Owner
